TO CHERISH THE MEMORY OF …
…
'daipaidong' (大牌檔)
is a Chinese slang used in Hong Kong at early 1950s which referred to a
number of food stalls located side by side on a narrow street with open
roofs. Since the licenses issued by the Government Authority to these
food stalls were large in size, 'daipai' means a big license while
'dong' stands for 'stall'. Despite of its simple, crude and often
crowded environment, it had attracted many HK people to take their
meals especially breakfasts there.
Notwithstanding of
the low prices, the stress of the cooking technique was one of the
factors that the 'daipaidong' were able to survive for more than thirty
years. Following the growing population in HK and as a means of
hygienic control, all the 'daipaidong' had to be removed and business
came to an end in early 1980s.
 To
recall memory of the old days,
Dai Pai Dong Restaurant (大排檔), a new look of
modernized restaurant, was established in 1993. Being one of the
subsidiaries of the retail chains under Kampery Development Ltd., it is
now running a total of 12 outlets in Hong Kong.
In addition to
providing the traditional drinks and Chinese entrees, Dai Pai Dong
Restaurant has developed their own brand. They are offering a range of
drink packs such as milk tea, coffee, green tea etc., which are
available for sale at their outlets and supermarkets.
Following
the successful launch of the membership scheme in 2000, Dai Pai Dong is
now offering a membership promotion with 40% discount for the first
patronage and goes with a number of complimentary drinks coupons. To
interface the membership accounts with
Seito® Food & Beverage
Management System, Dai Pai Dong is also using Seito® membership package
to update the members' data base.
In response to the
feedback of using Seito® , Mr. Yu,
Director of Operations said that the system not only helps them to
speed up the daily operations at their Retail Shops but also enables
them to work more systematically at the back office. Mr. Yu further
indicated that the implementation of information technology has greatly
improved management at all levels.
